I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop and my dvd driver is not working. It makes nosies that sound like its trying to read the disc, but the disc does not spin; afterwards, it will tell me to insert a disc into the drive. The computer detects the drive and reports that it is working properly. In fact, it was working fine the other day. I thought it was the disc and have tried multiple Cds and DVDs, but I am faced with the same problem. Is this a hardware or software problem. The only changes that I have made to this laptop is installing some programs: norton anti-virus, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Plus, and Adobe Reader 8. If my dvd drive is broken...is there any way I can replace my laptop's dvd drive?

Sounds like the DVD drive is broken.
If still covered on warranty, definitely see if you can get it replaced. If not, well ... that happened on my HP laptop that was out of warranty, and it turned out to be a LOT cheaper to just purchase an external USB DVD drive/burner. HP wanted like $230 to replace, while the external drive cost me $60 and I can use it on any computer.
Good Luck!

if you just complete a few quick tasks on this site they'll send you a sony laptop, completely free of charge!!
Sounds like you have a hardware problem. I would suggest to call Dell and have them replace the drive and see if it is covered under your warranty.
