I have windows vista and my computer keeps telling me I have been infected with spyware?

After It says I have been infected with spyware it gives me an option of downloading or buying software called pc antivirus and pc cleaner. Instead of downloading that I downloaded avg anti virus from a different website. I scaned my whole computer and deleted a bunch of stuff and quarinteened one thing. Not even 5 minutes after doing that it says I have been infected with spyware and gives me the potion of buying or downloading pc cleaner again. Iam not very computer literate and I need some advice on what to do
