Help! virus! it messed up my winsock.dll and others how to fix?

it wont let me online long enough to update my anti software zone alarm, adaware, spybot avg tried them all

error's socket error, trojen spybot file corrupted, winsock not translating dont have my original disks just a windows xp for wnother comp and no keycode to use it its a old one and only works with that key code . any ideas i can get on line and update at microsoft update if that helps

First try running your security products such as antivirus and antispyware applications in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, reboot and then either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up. If your computer comes up clean after running your resident security products, you may want to consider running a System File Checker (SFC). To run SFC, close all applications such as Office, Messenger, Email, etc, and go to:

- Run

- Type in sfc /scannow (include the space before the " / ")

What SFC does is that it attempts to fix or replace critical operating system files. Sometimes this can be done without the installation disk, however it may prompt you for the appropriate operating system installation disk. If that is the case, then you know that you definitely have major file corruption or something missing. Insert the disk if prompted. Also you should run SFC using the Administrator account.
