Pc illiterate seeks pc geek! help!?

For the past couple of weeks my pc re-starts without me restarting it. This tends to happen while I'm surfing the net or playing games (not only those times though). I have anti-virus/spyware software which I run regularlly, so I don't think that I have ne viruses. I was working on an important paper when it suddenly re-started, the document I was working on was lost. Please tell me I don't have a pc poltergeist or something..lol. Thank God it doesn't start up on its own after I turn the pc off. Then I'd have to call in an excorsist.

Sounds to me like your computer is fairly old. Dirt, dust, pet hair, human hair, etc. gets pulled in by the cooling fans and clogs them.

This causes either the CPU or the power supply to overheat and shutdown until it is cooled.

It could also be a driver issue. Do you get a blue screen with allot of text on it before it restarts.

If it's a driver issue call a PC geek you know this can be a pain to fix and find the driver the is making the issue.

I also agree with cleaning the PC out too. Take off the PC cover and clean all dust and dust balls out of the fans.
