Internet connection stops working after a while?

A few days ago, this started to happen, while browsing it will just stop as if my connection just dies.

I can still ping localhost, my internet gateway and DNS server - but if i try to browse (with firefox 2) it just stops.

I don't have any software firewall on, i do run the windows XP pro firewall and have a linksys router, and an anti-virus program running.

This is quite annoying, but also worries me, anybody have any ideas?

If you can get out to your provider's network (the DNS server in this case) ok then that means something is wrong with your provider. Perhaps too much traffic and so you can't get your packets routed.

If you are using wireless, make sure your local wireless router is set up as the primary connection source (control panel, network connection, wireless interface, properties, wireless properties, then order your router and remove any others in the list if necessary).

Try using your IE browser Instead of Firefox.And see what happens. I had a simular problem when i downloaed IE 7 Brouser.

Set IE security settings to default Medium settings

go to control pannel and find internrt connections click and see if they are working properly.
I dunno,might be related to the severed cable near Taiwan.
