Would it be possible to use a purchased copy of Windows XP to install on a Dell computer?

Ok so I have been working on a Dell computer for a relative of mine and am having a hard time getting all the spyware and viruses off of her computer. I've tried to download some anti-virus protection but whenever I do it tells me that the computer does not have sufficient memory space in order to install. So my question is this. Would it be safe to completely wipe out her computer and then reinstall a fresh version of Windows XP Home edition onto it. This is not the cd that came with her computer but is instead a version that I myself own. My only concern is whether it will install all of the necessary drivers that Dell has with their software. Any help would be much appreciated.

It is safe to install, though it will not have the drivers you need on it. You will have to find the drivers, though the Dell site should have the drivers on it.

Yes, it is possible. First, back up your drivers, files, and applications that you will want to save. Then, insert the XP CD and choose to reformat/install. Follow the steps, and you should have a like-new computer.
