What is the best software for removing a worm/trojan horse from a compter?

I've got a virus on my computer that hijacks me to bogus sites asking me to update bank info, verify ssn, etc. I've tried to remove it with Norton antivirus, MS defender, ad-aware, yahoo toolbar anti spyware, spybot search %26 destroy. None of these have been able to detect or remove the virus. One of my friends said that once the virus is embedded in the computer, these programs can't work. So now I'm stuck, I need to remove the virus. is there any software that works once the virus is on the computer?
