How is my pentium 3 1ghz 256mb faster with xp than my P4?

Both have xp fresh install,only software installed is avg anti virus, but the Pentium 4 2.33ghz 256mb ddr ram is slower than the Pentium 3 1ghz 256mb ram 256kb cache??????? they both have xp essential, no viruses,no crap/bloatware... the p4 is an hp and the p3 is sort of a scrap pc with a gateway mobo in it.... The Pentium 4 takes over 4 minutes to boot, the pentium 3 takes 30 seconds and is MUCH more responsive. both with xp essential

also depends on how many drivers it has to load and how bloated those drivers are. the ones in the hp are probably more bloated and there's probably more of them

well it sounds like the quick boot is turned off on your settings for the Pentium 4 which you can easily change if you press F12 when booting up

if its not that go to your start menu hit run and type in msconfg to see what programs are all trying to start up do that on both computers and compare the two your answer lies somewhere in there
That is quite odd.

1. Make sure you've got your chipset drivers installed.

2. Go into the BIOS of the P4 machine and look for something like "Restore default settings" or "Optimal settings".

3. Are you sure the hard drive speed isn't the factor?
