How do anti-virus makers label their 鈥渘ewly-captured鈥?virus? For example Grisoft and Symantec are not connected, but if their softwares captures a threat, it will show the SAME name? Is there a protocol for officially naming a virus?

NO there is no official protocol, but they tend to follow the same rules:

i think antivirus makers are sharing their databases so as to have a unified front against the cyber underworld.
viruses are like any program, how are you going to save them if you don't name them?
Viruses are named by the people who create them, rather then the anti virus companies (no one said that the both can not be the same :)
