Ever since my norton internet security software expired I decided to try the free AVG anti-virus and anti-spyware software instead. But my laptop has been running very slow - has the new software affected it? I have had a good disk clean up and have defragmented the computer but still it's running slower than before - please help! Many thanks.
Slow running PC?microsoft office
It's unlikely that AVG is the cause but if you want to test it, try uninstalling it (disconnect from the internet first) and play around and see if there's a difference.
One thing to check... did you uninstall Norton first? If not this could be a problem as different anti virus programs often conflict with each other.
Slow running PC?norton antivirus
Hi, i had the same problem but with my normal PC, in the end my son took everything off, defragmented it, and it would still run slow.
Then we put in more memory and it has been working fine ever since.
Have you put any thing else on your PC, my son also put on a different spywear %26 anti virus which was free.
He just looked it up in google.com, and downloaded it for me.
A lot of the new programs we download require far more memory than the other programs. Keeps us constantly upgrading or buying new.
the problem isavg downloads itself every day as soon as the pc is switched on causing problems get back to norton
use norton antivirus corporate edition if o/s is win98 use 8 or 9 ver of norton corporate edition and if you use windows xp use ver 10 its use minimum disk space.
the free software is worst than norton anti-virus crap because now your computer is even more vulnerable, if you want your computer to keep running fast, fork up the $50 to get some quality software..
Its eating up your RAM / system resourses. This happened to me after installing McAfee. Any "good" anti-virus/firewall program will do this, as it is always running and always protecting. I upgraded my RAM, and things run-open-startup-shutdown at a bearable speed.
Go to AVG options and switch OFF scan-on start up. This will prevent AVG scanning the computer for viruses when booting up.
If its still slow open up task manager with the computer fired up and see what is using the most processor power.
Not AVG. AVG does not do that. Its the best, lightest anti virus software around.
Try the following:
1. Check if Norton was uninstalled.
2. In AVG settings, see if you have created any settings that require repeated scans on each access of a file etc.
3. Clear the temporary files and temporary internet files.
4. Remove all programs that you do not use.
